The Gold of the Ancients
Ivatan Jewelry by AMAMI seeks to revive and raise awareness about a long forgotten cultural heritage of the Ivatan people of Batanes, located in the northernmost tip of the Philippines. The Pinatapatan has not been seen worn in over 100 years.
In ancient times, the Pinatapatan was a symbol of wealth and status. They were worn by slipping the wearer's earlobe through the gap of Pinatapatan, inserting one rounded end of the earring through one's piecing. It is then held in place by gravity.
Our minimalist Pinatapatan Choker Necklace highlights the features of this precolonial treasure. Pair with a collared shirt, v-neck or tube top for a chic look.
*AMAMI retained traditional elements and reworked the jewelry to adapt to contemporary times
